National Recreation and Park Association

In October 2008, Steve spoke at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Congress and Exposition in Baltimore. He partnered with Tim Dimke, Executive Director of the Rockford Park District. Steve shared strategies that park and recreation spokespersons can use with reporters to successfully frame and deliver their messages. Throughout the workshop, Tim shared real-life examples of how the Rockford Park District implemented the strategies over the years.

Public Library Association

In March 2008, Steve spoke at the Public Library Association (PLA) National Conference in Minneapolis. He shared strategies that library directors, board members and other spokespersons can take before reporters call and during media interviews that will help them deliver their messages, avoid stupid mistakes, and recognize and counter the tactics and questions used by reporters that could get them into trouble.
